Safety, Safety Safety

There are various tours out there, but if you want the longest working tour that prioritizes safety, then choose Gravity. The guides are professionals and give you a detailed verbal layout of the trail including places to watch out for (yes, where people have died). I really appreciated that none of the guides rushed anyone to go faster or do anything beyond their comfort level. I read through some of the negative reviews and to address them:
1. Yes, zipline and sanctuary tour costs more. Plan for it if that's what you want. It also does add to the overall timeline. We made it back to hotel at 8pm.
2. Snacks can be improved, especially for vegan folks (more than just an apple please)
3. The sanctuary is barebones and runs on donations. The lunch is plentiful (spaghetti plus meat/veg sauce) but manage your expectations and bring additional snacks if you want specific foods.
4. Showers at the sanctuary are basic too with only cold water- but hey, still nice to clean up after a long ride.

Biking death road

What an adrenaline rush! After considering the price and the risks a bit, thankfully we decided to do the Death Road with Gravity. And it was so worth it. Our guide Kenneth made me feel very secure as he has obvious experience. He explained all very thoroughly, gave helpful instructions and answered all questions. It was such a fun and unique experience for me. Even though I went a bit slower than the rest of the group, I didn’t feel left alone or insecure as our driver José always accompanied me with the car. He was driving behind us all the time, collecting clothes as it got hotter and hotter and providing us with snacks. I can really recommend Gravity - the experience is worth the price!
Great experience surviving the death road :)

Kenny and Guillermo were simply amazing. The bike tour started with a lovely breakfast before we headed to the start of the track. Great gear with additional layers were provided, good instructions given and off we went. Kenny gave great insights and stories along the way and Guillermo supported us with everything we needed, including lovely snacks. And thanks to them we made it safely down the death road :)y Was one of the best experiences ever. We would highly recommend to use Gravity for this tour!
Awesome adventure, top to bottom!

It was an absolute blast!

A big reason for this was the care and attention the guides, Noel & Alvaro, gave to us during the tour. We saw other tours on the route, none of them looked as prepared as ours with regards to safety protocols and equipment (great full suspension bikes, in great shape). Everything from Gravity was top notch. Definitely follow their packing guide, it is well advised. Very friendly guides - I highly recommend Gravity if you are going to do Death Road!
Awesome day, very safe

Gus and Luis were extremely helpful guides who made sure safety on the ride was always maintained. Gus pointed out parts of the ride that could be more dangerous so every rider knew when to ride slow and when we could speed up again. The day was made fun and lots of photos of the ride were taken and sent which meant we could just enjoy the ride without having to constantly stop and get cameras out.
Couldn’t recommend this company enough.
Great day out

Overall a brilliant day. We felt safe and had plenty of stops which meant we could really take in the views. Compared to what some of the other groups were wearing, our safety gear seemed much better. The snacks and sandwiches they gave us on the way down were great and the lunch we got at the end was brilliant. Our guide, Gustavo, explained in English the upcoming sections of the road clearly and answered any questions we had.

As we paid around $50 more than other companies and saw all the 5 star reviews, a couple of minor things did disappoint us, hence the 4 stars rather than 5. First, the bus couldn't pick us up from our airbnb so we agreed to walk to the nearest hostel (~1km away), which wasn't a problem, however the bus was an hour late and we weren't given any update, which meant we were waiting on the street for an hour. We also thought the tour of the animal sanctuary at the end was included in the price, however, you have to pay extra for this.

All in all though, a brilliant day out!
